Occupational Safety and Health Administration Training (OSHA 30)




WHAT IS IT
Under Local Law 196, all construction workers in NYC must complete 40 hours of safety training. The OSHA 30 training course is a 30-hour safety program designed for construction industry workers. It provides the necessary knowledge and skills to prevent workplace accidents, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and reducing the risk of injuries. This course covers hazard identification, emergency response, and the implementation of safety measures.

DOB-Approved Training for New YorkCity's Workforce
Construction work in New York City is demanding, fast-moving, and heavily regulated. Each day, workers help build and maintain the infrastructure that keeps the city running, often under difficult and high-risk conditions. La Colmena's DOB-Approved Training equips workers, unions, and contractors with the knowledge they need to meet New York City safety requirements, obtain Site Safety Cards, and stay safe on the job every day.

4-Hour Supported Scaffold User and Refresher (Scaffold Card and SST)

WHAT IS IT
This course equips participants with the knowledge and skills to identify and prevent common safety hazards associated with supported scaffold use. Participants will learn how to implement effective safety controls, properly use fall prevention and fall protection equipment, inspect scaffolds for safe operation, and follow emergency procedures to help ensure a safe and compliant work environment.

English as a Second Language
(ESL)

WHAT IS IT
La Colmena has partnered with the College of Staten Island to offer beginner English classes, which have been running since July 2022. These classes are available during the fall and spring semesters in the evenings from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, typically three days a week. Interested individuals can register for the waitlist, and they are contacted once a class is confirmed.
Past Initiatives: In addition, La Colmena collaborated with WeSpeak NYC to provide free English conversation classes using their award-winning educational TV series. These classes focus on learning everyday English and providing valuable information about New York City services and rights. The WeSpeak NYC classes were held for four cycles.
WHAT WE DID

In Fiscal Year 2024, 95 individuals successfully completed our ESL course, which focused on enhancing language skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The course has significantly improved participants' ability to communicate effectively in both professional and personal settings, contributing to their overall growth and success.
